KOLACZ Vineyard

Previous Next

The name of the KOLACZ vineyard refers to the Latin name of Kołaczyce, which is the home town of the owners - Maria Śniegowska and Jan Śniegowski. Historical records contain the first mentions of the village of Colaczicze. The interest in viticulture arose as a result of frequent trips to Italy to work in the vineyards around Bolzano in the 1990s. The works carried out in different seasons during these trips enabled the in-depth observation of grapevines and its requirements.

In 2004, the idea of creating their own home vineyard was carried out by the Śniegowski family. Initially, 300 grapevines were planted. They took roots and grew wonderfully . In 2009, the vineyard area was expanded to include a new location on a plot of land with an area of 0.5 ha - a southern hillside with a slope of 20 ° located at an altitude of 275 m above sea level with a beautiful view of the town of Kołaczyce, fish ponds in Kłodawa and the Liwocz mountain. In the vineyard, 11 processing grapevine varieties are grown, among which white wine is represented by the following varieties: Bianca, Jutrzenka, Aurora, Odessa Muscat, Hibernal and Seyval Blanc, Johanniter and Solaris, and red wine by Rondo and Regent. The vineyard is grown in espaliers with a spacing of 2.5m x 1m - single Guyot. There is grass between rows which is very often mown, and the soil near the plants is scarified and frequently weeded. All works are done by hand, which largely determines the character of the wine. It is a typical family vineyard focused on the production of a small amount of good quality wine. The produced wines are aged in a nearby family cellar. Single-family buildings have cellar rooms of a typical detached house which, after the adoption, were intended for the wine production. The cellars have changed - currently there are two rooms: the first one is used for the production of wine and in the second one it matures. Grapes are de-stemmed and the juice is squeezed outside the building. Wines produced in the Jasiel vineyard win numerous awards: 1st Polish Wine Competition Jasło 2014 - Muscat received a gold medal, 2nd Polish Wine Competition Jasło 2015 - Bianca received a bronze medal, Muscat won a silver medal, 3rd Polish Wine Competition Jasło 2016 - Bianca received a gold medal. Recently two medals were awarded to the vineyard in the 4th Polish Wine Competition Jasło 2017: the wine Muscat 2016 received a gold medal, and Hibernal 2016 a bronze medal. The owners host enotourists and treat them not only to the wine of their own production, but also to other home-made goods and preserves. Touring and tasting is possible only upon the notification. Groups of up to 10 people are received - lucky ones can get a taste of home-made bread with traditional lard, home-made sausage and various home-made preserves, available depending on the season.
